Over the next few days there’ll be a contractor putting in slabs for “furniture” ie. picnic tables with chairs and seats. This is a result of a combined grant with Council as part of the Stronger Communities funding from NSW Government and we acknowledge our local MP Leslie Williams for making this possible. We also thank Council for the carriage of this grant.
The facilities will restore historic Coal Wharf to the 1930’s era when it provided recreation opportunities for Port Macquarie and resident rowed across at the weekends to picnic. The Coal Wharf once had a bunker for coal and then made a crucial contribution to the building of the North Wall. Rock was blasted out of the quarry on Plomer Rd and moved by rail to the North Wall.
